Fr. Leon’s Short Biography

Fr. Leon Ngandu is a Divine Word Missionary Priest. Ordained a priest on May 27, 2012, in his home country D.R. Congo, Fr. Leon was assigned to the United States by his superior general from Rome, Italy.  He arrived in the United States in 2013. He studied English at the Divine Word College in Epworth, Iowa from August 2013 to May 2014 because his primary language is French. Since July 2014 when he started his ministries, Fr. Leon has ministered to a couple of churches in the diocese of Little Rock/Arkansas and Lafayette/Louisiana before he became the pastor of Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in the Archdiocese of New Orleans on July 1st, 2023. He has a master's degree in biblical theology (December 2023) from the University of Dallas. 

1. Diocese of Little Rock in Arkansas

-          July 1, 2014- February 2015: Associate pastor at St. Augustine’s in North Little Rock, St. Bartholomew’s in Little Rock, and full-time chaplain at St. Vincent Hospital in Little Rock.

-          February 2015- June 2016: Administrator at St. Mary’s and St. Patrick’s, both in North Little Rock and full-time chaplain at St. Vincent Hospital in Little Rock.

2. Diocese of Lafayette/Louisiana

-          July 2016 – June 2018: Associate Pastor at Immaculate Heart of Mary in Lafayette, Louisiana.

3. Back in the Diocese of Little Rock/Arkansas

-          July 1, 2018-June 30, 2023: Pastor at St. Augustine’s in North Little Rock and St. Bartholomew’s in Little Rock,

-          In addition to being a pastor, he worked as a hospital chaplain (July 2018-Julay 2019) and Bible Teacher and Chaplain at Mount St. Mary’s Academy, a Catholic High School in Little Rock (August 2019 – May 2023).

4. Archdiocese of New Orleans/Louisiana

Since July 1, 2023:

- Pastor at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in New Orleans.

- Bible teacher (Theology II) at Saint Augustine Catholic High School in New Orleans.  

5. Others

-          Fr. Leon is the Biblical Apostolate Coordinator for the SVD in the US Southern Province.

-          He has a master's degree in biblical theology (December 2023) from the University of Dallas.

The subject of his thesis is:

“Theological Significance and Pastoral Implication of the Scriptures Proclaimed at Mass:

A Case Study on the Importance of the Liturgical Weekly Bible Study.

-          He is the author of “May It Be Done to Me According to Your Word” (2017), a book that talks about his journey to the priesthood and his experience of the first five years as a priest.

-          Fr. Leon is well known for the revivals, missions, retreats, and sessions that he preaches across the country and overseas.
